10 Section 110 2001 LIGHT TRUCK FLEET INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPLA CING IGNITION LOCK CYLINDERS For replacement ofan existing Ignition Lock Cylinder with a new Ignition Lock Cylinder Set for Service Only which contains a new Ignition Lock Cylinder and two partial pre cut keys that can be matched cut to the existing door locks the following procedure is recommended 1 Remove the existing Ignition Lock Cylinder refer to appropriate Shop Manual for removal and installation procedures The Ignition Lock Cylinder can be removed by tirst disconnecting the battery 8 cable then turn the lock cylinder to t he runl position Obtain I S inch diameter drift pin and depress the retaining pin with it in the hole located on the lock cylinder housing while pulling the lock cylinderout 2 After removing the existing Ignition Lock Cylinder check lor the existence ofpilot on end ofcylinder see Figure 1 lf pilot if present use nomral diagnostic procedure to determine sotuce ofbind Ifpilot is not present continue with this procedure 3 Procure the appropriate Ignition Lock Set two keys for Service Only NOTE The appropriate Ignition Lock Set is determined by depth ofcut nn Number 6 tumbler station ofthe existing ignltinn key see Figure Z This depth ofcut can be accurately determined by usingtlre Ford Rntunda Key Code Cutting Package Tool The elected new Ignition Lock Set will have tumbler stations I Z J 4 and 6 pre cut on both new keys to match the new Ignition Lock Cylinder Included in the set The renralnlng tumbler stations S 7 B 9 and I0 wi I1 be cut tn match the existing keys for the door locks 4 The head ofthe new keys from the Ignition Lock Set Service Only will only match the existing non turbo Thunderbird Cougar keys Ifthe customer is concemed about the head oft he keys being matched additional two blank keys must be ordered Cut two blank keys on tumbler station number I Z 3 4 and Stomatch the new keys from the selectedlgnition Lock Set Service Only using the calledout tool S Using theold ignition keys decode tumbler cut numbers 5 7 S 9 and 10 using the called outtool 6 Cut the new matching keypcsition numbers 5 7 S 9 and I0 using the calledout tool 7 Check out new key operation in the new Ignition Lock Cylinder turd the doors both keys 8 Install the new Ignition Lock Cylinder in the steering column referto the appropriate Shop Manual 9 Startthe car to insure proper operation ofthe systems affected NOTE Make sure that hoth keys that have been cut per the above instructions will retum to the t m position from start position without drag For future key code Identification retain both old and new key tags
