14 I Q FORD TR WCK PMR TS SECTION 40 HOW TO IDENTIFY REAR AXLE PARTS Many rear axle types and assemblies are offered in the Ford truck lin e T0 facilitate the identification of replacement parts parts lists or bills of material are provided in this catalog for each type of axle The rear axle type can be identtfied from various markings on the Rear Axle Carrier for 1948 and subsequent models The rear axle type can be identified from the stamping or model number shown on the rear axle carrier assembly See illustration on next page When the stamping or model number is known refer to the Truck to Rear Axle Identification Chart on pages 145 and 146 for the related Parts List Number Also shown in the Truck to Rear Axle Identification Chart is the page number for a typical parts illustration for each axle type The Truck to Rear Axle Identification Chart on pages 145 8 146 is arranged in sequence by model year and within the model year by truck series Under this arrangement the correct parts list and related illustration can be selected when the carrier identification number is not known providing optional equipment was not used for the vehicle in question Only when optional equipment was used for the same truck series the rear axle must be identified by Speed Manufacturer Name and or Model Number Carrier Identification Number etc as indicateid in the Chart Parts Lists are arranged in order by Parts List Number in Section 40A on pages 147 thru 188 Immediately following the Parts List Section 4OA the Ford basic groups are continued in Section 40 1 beginning with page 189 Rear Axle Parts Illustrations are shown in Illustration Section 42 of Illustration Catalog Form FD 9465 To identify the parts for a specific axle assembly it is only necessary to refer to the related parts list and parts illustration REAR WHEEL BEARING l HART When the rear axle parts list number is known the appropriate rear wheel bearing cone and roller assemblies with their corresponding cups can readily be i ile nti fie in a Rear Wheel Bearing Chart appearing at the end of Section 11
